Forest tour with the district forester
Invitation: on 16 September, 3.30 pm, meeting point Hutholz, Wolgograder Allee, Markersdorfer Straße junction
On Monday, 16 September at 3.30 pm, interested parties are invited to a guided tour of the forest as part of the Capital of Culture project "Living Neighbourhood". The meeting point is at Hutholz - at the entrance to the forest, where Markersdorfer Straße branches off from Wolgograder Allee to Neukirchen (near the Johannes-Dick-Straße bus stop).
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited.
During the tour, the forest maintenance work scheduled to begin in September, including the felling of damaged timber in the municipal forests of the City of Chemnitz, will be presented.
During the walk through the forest, Andreas Streich, head of the green space maintenance/forestry department, and forester Jörg Weisbrich will provide information on the impact of the bark beetle calamity, forest management, the requirements of FSC® certification and the effects of forest management on the development of the forest over the next few years.
They will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.
The death of spruce trees due to bark beetle infestation is unfortunately continuing, but many old beech trees and other deciduous tree species are also showing signs of damage or even dying off.
From the beginning of September 2024 to the end of March 2025, urgent felling, forest maintenance work and traffic safety measures on roads and property boundaries will therefore take place. (see press release 589)
