Chemnitz is currently at forest fire risk level 4 (high risk). In view of this, the City of Chemnitz Parks Department would like to point out that barbecues are currently prohibited in the designated barbecue areas in public green spaces. This is also regulated by the green space statutes of the City of Chemnitz.
Furthermore, the Parks Department appeals to all those who are currently visiting the green spaces, parks and forests to refrain from using fire/heat sources and, if possible, to only use the main paths for hikes/walks. Even a small spark can start an uncontrolled fire and have devastating consequences. In addition to avoiding open fires - including the use of lighters, matches, candles or lit cigarettes - rubbish should also not be left lying around, as this can significantly increase the risk of a fire starting.
The risk of wildfires and forest fires is increasing significantly due to the high temperatures and persistent drought. High temperatures without rain are also forecast for the next few days, which will make the situation more difficult.
