Foreign language assistants from six countries support Chemnitz schools
Invitation to the photo session: Reception of the EU Coordinator on 13 December, 11.30 a.m. in the town hall
On Tuesday, 13 December at 11.30 a.m., eleven foreign language assistants from France, Great Britain, Canada, Russia, Spain and the USA will be welcomed by Pia Sachs, EU Coordinator of the City of Chemnitz, in the Green Salon of the City Hall. They will be given an insight into the history of the city of Chemnitz and its European work. Among other things, the EU office's programmes for school classes during Europe Week and European Mobility Week will be presented to encourage participation.
During the subsequent guided tour of the Old and New Town Hall, the foreign language assistants will be able to deepen their knowledge of the language and culture of their German host country. They will be accompanied by Heike Paul, a consultant from the Chemnitz regional office of the Saxon Education Agency.
Every year, schools throughout Germany can apply for foreign language assistants from the Educational Exchange Service programme. The Chemnitz regional office of the Education Agency has received eleven students for Chemnitz schools this school year. The German language is an important part of their studies. The young, motivated native speakers spend around twelve hours a week for six to nine months teaching foreign languages in their native language at the schools.
