Forecourt of the "Am Stadtpark" primary school to be renovated
Construction begins on 22 August - public passageway temporarily closed
From Monday, 22 August, work will begin on the forecourt of the "Am Stadtpark" primary school. The already renovated "Am Stadtpark" primary school will be given a newly designed forecourt, which will increase the quality of stay and improve the routing.
During the construction work, which will last until the end of October, it will not be possible for public users to pass through. However, access to and from the school will be guaranteed.
Noise from mini-excavators, wheel loaders and other construction machinery is to be expected throughout the construction period, and quiet hours will be observed.
The forecourt of the school is not a purely school area, but a semi-public area. It is characterised by two public paths tangent to the square, the art object "Youth" by Fritz Diedering and a spacious concrete seating area. The triangular forecourt is lined on two sides by a dense stand of trees and shrubs, which serve as a privacy screen and shade and cool the heavily sealed square at high temperatures.
Apart from the existing vegetation, the entire forecourt is in need of renovation. The main focus of the project is therefore to renovate the surfaces and furnishings. The entire site covers an area of just under 1,800 square metres, of which only just under 150 square metres is green space.
The tarmac footpaths will be refurbished and in some cases rearranged to improve the layout. A barrier-free design creates access and stopping options for school taxis. Separate public and school paths will also be created.
The tarmac surface will be replaced with large-format concrete paving. The square area paved with natural stone paving will also be renovated, partially unsealed and redesigned.
The concrete seating steps framing the square will be partially renovated in heavily damaged areas. In addition, the entire seating steps will be sealed with surface and graffiti protection and fitted with seating elements.
In order to set accents not only with the coloured seating elements and to increase the quality of stay - especially for the pupils - play options, e.g. for jumping and educational games, will also be applied in colour to the surface.
Three trees will also be planted within the square to provide shade and improve the quality of the space. Litter bins and adequate lighting will also be integrated into the forecourt.
The "Jugend" art object will not be affected by the measure. Whether and to what extent the monument will be restored is still being clarified.
The total cost of the project is around 443,000 euros. Around two thirds of the costs are being financed by the Urban Redevelopment East HR 5 funding programme.
The planning office iproplan from Chemnitz was commissioned with the planning and construction supervision and the Chemnitz construction company Hammer with the realisation.
The construction work is expected to be completed by the end of October. The maintenance work for the planting will continue for another year, until the end of October 2023.
