For World AIDS Day on 1 December in Chemnitz: Information offers and projects under the sign of the "Red Ribbon"
The city's health department draws attention to numerous offers - starting on Thursday (21 November) with the "Hand on heart" prevention project at the Saxon School for the Blind (Flemmingstraße)
On the occasion of World Aids Day on 1 December, the topic of HIV is once again being brought to the forefront of public awareness for a short period of time. The ongoing differentiated and sustainable prevention and successful new treatment strategies in Germany have led to Germany having one of the lowest numbers of new HIV infections in Europe, with around 3,000 new infections per year. The City of Chemnitz Health Department also emphasises that an open and non-discriminatory approach to the topic of HIV and AIDS and the people affected is a key prerequisite for successful prevention.
The public health department would once again like to draw public attention to World Aids Day and the events and information campaigns prepared in Chemnitz around 1 December 2013 as well as the traditional street collection.
Medical officer Dr Liebhard Monzer, head of the public health department: "The health department of the city of Chemnitz is asking for attention for activities, information offers and projects on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2013, because: people with HIV and AIDS need our solidarity, as we know that there is still no cure for fear of contact, exclusion and stigmatisation. Only a few people with HIV dare to openly discuss their infection because they are afraid that their fellow human beings will turn away from them. However, all of us who are not affected can actively show solidarity. For example, by not only informing ourselves on 1 December and making HIV an issue, but also by wearing the red ribbon, volunteering in an association or donating money."
Contact and contact person: The city's health department offers expert information on all questions relating to sexually transmitted infections on 0371/ 488-5361. The AIDS-Hilfe Chemnitz e.V. association is also available as a contact partner on 0371/41 52 23. In addition, every citizen can obtain anonymous advice and be tested for HIV at the advice centre for sexually transmitted infections and AIDS at the public health department. As other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are also on the rise, the advice centre has expanded its services and also offers advice and, under certain circumstances, tests for these. Any illnesses that may occur are treated confidentially.
Most of the services offered are free of charge.

Monday, 9 December, AIDS-Hilfe Chemnitz: Prevention event on the topic of "HIV, AIDS and STI" for pupils and trainees of VBFA e.V. Chemnitz (Association for Vocational Promotion and Training).
Wednesday, 11 December, AIDS-Hilfe Chemnitz: Christmas cookery course with instruction from Bettina Göthel, state-approved dietician and certified medical nutritionist - with an emphasis on healthy nutrition for HIV infection.
Also: On Saturday, 23 November from 8 p.m., a benefit concert by the band MerQury Queen will take place at Messe Halle 1 in Dresden. The Saxon Medal of Honour for outstanding achievements in the fight against HIV and AIDS will be awarded at the event.
AIDS-Hilfe Chemnitz e.V. will also be a guest in Dresden that evening.
