For the museum night: Fancy going out on a limb ...?

"Special offer" at Lichtenwalde Palace and Park is a unique opportunity! - Chemnitz Museum Night on 9 May 2015 from 6 pm to 1 am

34 museums, galleries and institutions at 32 locations are taking part in the 16th edition of Chemnitz Museum Night. Once a year, participation in the largest joint project in the museum sector offers the opportunity to bring a wide range of art and treasures from the archives, as well as Chemnitz's typical traditions in industry and vehicle construction, closer to a broader public in an exciting and entertaining way.

When visiting the "Special Offer" this year, there will be a unique opportunity to "go astray" on the night-time discovery tour to experience Lichtenwalde Palace and Park as a jewel at the gates of the city of Chemnitz in a nocturnal atmosphere. Exhibits from distant cultures are waiting to be discovered in the treasure chamber and the castle chapel will be filled with the sounds of the Donati organ. In the park, you can meet quirky "everyday people" on romantic walks and try out the Lichtenwald park games. Young visitors can take part in hands-on activities such as making stamps, fans and lanterns, which can be lit up on the lantern tours.

The smac - Staatliches Museum für Archäologie Chemnitz (Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology) will be another attraction of the Chemnitz Museum Night 2015, where, for example, the Chemnitz finds from the city centre excavations from 1993 to 2001 will be presented. New participants include the association Eisenbahnfreunde Richard Hartmann e. V., which will be opening the engine house of the cable drainage system in the Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf railway park for the first time since its renovation, and the Rotary Club Chemnitz with the "Great Chemnitzers" exhibition in the Red Tower, which will be open for Museum Night for the first time since 2004.

Young visitors can look forward to many activities and hands-on programmes, e.g. physical and chemical experiments in the Chemnitz Tram Museum, the "Arithmetic according to Adam Ries" in the Ebersdorf School Museum or the creative design of necklaces made from fossilised wood (Museum of Natural History), of coats of arms (Museum fürr Naturkunde), coats of arms (smac), with "paint and roller" (Kunstsammlungen am Theaterplatz), a "landscape in a milk carton" (Gunzenhauser Museum) or "homemade teddy bears" (Ebersdorfer Museumsspeicher).
