Footpath bridge Zwickauer Straße/Gabelsbergerstraße over Wiesenbach closed
Based on the findings of a main bridge inspection carried out this year, it is necessary to close the Zwickauer Straße/Gabelsbergerstraße footpath bridge to all traffic at short notice from next week. Road safety can no longer be guaranteed due to the damage.
Background:
As part of a general inspection, it was discovered that one of the main girders is so badly rusted that the bridge's load-bearing capacity is no longer guaranteed.
The structure could previously only be used as a pedestrian and cycle bridge, with pedestrians and cyclists being diverted via Unritzstraße and Am Wiesenbach. Following the closure, it is planned to completely demolish the structure as it is not economically viable to repair it. A decision will then have to be made on whether to rebuild the bridge.
