Currently, the wood protection coating on all wooden components and the damaged wooden parts of the Hönickasteg footbridge, the connecting path between Harthauer Straße and Schulstraße over the Chemnitz, are being renewed as part of structural maintenance measures. For the duration of the construction work, the bridge at the confluence of the Würschnitz and Zwönitz rivers to the Chemnitz will remain closed to public pedestrian traffic.
The work had to be interrupted due to the persistently wet weather in recent weeks, as the painting work could not be carried out under these conditions. Due to the risk of increased water levels, parts of the scaffolding standing in the water also had to be dismantled for the time being.
Work will be resumed as soon as stable, dry weather conditions allow and the wooden surfaces have dried sufficiently.
If the weather does not interfere with the construction work, it is expected to take another four to five weeks. During this period, the bridge will remain closed to public pedestrian traffic.
