Footpath between Erzbergerstraße and Horst-Menzel-Straße opened
The new footpath connecting Erzbergerstraße and Horst-Menzel-Straße was opened today.
Construction work on the combined footpath and cycle path began in July.
The 125 metre long path with a width of 2.50 metres runs along the existing green corridor between the two streets. Due to the difference in height between Horst-Menzel-Straße and Erzbergerstraße, which is around 4 metres, extensive earthworks were required. Soil excavation and removal work was carried out and prefabricated support brackets were erected.
Finally, the railings for fall protection will be installed on the support brackets, and this work is expected to be completed by the end of January. The path will then also be open to cyclists.
The company ATS Chemnitz Asphalt-, Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH has been commissioned to carry out the construction work. The costs amount to around 387,000 euros and will be financed from the City of Chemnitz's own funds.
