Football at the place of horror: "Liga Terezín"
Adult education centre: Film screening and discussion, 7 September, 7 to 8.30 p.m., TIETZ, event hall
On Thursday, 7 September, from 19 to 20.30 pm, the adult education centre and the ASA-FF association will be showing the documentary "Liga Terezín", which tells the incredible story of the Terezín ghetto that took place there from 1942 to 1944: Jewish prisoners organised their own football league during this time in order to forget the cruelty of everyday life for at least 90 minutes every now and then.
Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible by telephone on 0371 488-4343 or online at www.vhs-chemnitz.de/kurs/W2310110.
The Theresienstadt ghetto was a kind of "model ghetto" during the Nazi era and was the only camp with a football league. The prisoners played against each other in the barracks courtyard - the National Socialists used film footage of this for propaganda purposes. When the Israeli Oded Breda discovered his uncle in pictures, he decided to gather more information about the football league and produced a documentary film in 2012.
Following the film (duration: 52 minutes), there will be an invitation to a discussion with the Terezín Youth Meeting Association.
The film screening is a cooperation between ASA-FF and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. It takes place as part of the project #Heimspiel of the ASA-FF/programme "neue unentd_ckte narrative" and the CFC-Fans gegen Rassismus.
