FÖJ national action day: Spring cleaning in the Botanical Garden
On Tuesday, 16 April, young people who are completing a Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ) with the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and the Environment and the Saxony Green League - FÖJ e.V. will be helping with spring cleaning at Chemnitz Botanical Garden. The occasion is the FÖJ state action day, on which every year FÖJ volunteers from all over Saxony get involved in nature and environmental protection. This year, the action day will take place simultaneously in four regions of Saxony.
At the Botanical Garden in Chemnitz, the FÖJ volunteers will be repairing fences and mending the network of paths, among other things. They will also collect rubbish in the neighbouring Crimmitzschau forest and create a deadwood hedge. This is done under expert guidance and with the support of the staff of the Botanical Garden and the Nature Conservation Centre of the Nature Conservation Association. During the lunch break, there will be a barbecue together and the current butterfly show in the Botanical Garden's tropical house can be visited.
With this event, the young people want to make a contribution to the environment and society. They also want to draw attention to the FÖJ in Saxony, which gives young people the opportunity to spend a year volunteering for nature and environmental protection.
The next FÖJ year begins on 1 September 2013 - applications are still being accepted.
