On Thursday, 18 September at 6 pm (admission from 5.30 pm), Chemnitz City Library invites you to a reading in honour of the writer and bookseller Rainer Klis, who died in 2017, at the Neue Sächsische Galerie in the TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20. Katja Lange-Müller, Ralph Grüneberger and Hans Brinkmann will be reading under the title "Flowers for the Underdog" - with music by Helmut "Joe" Sachse.
Admission costs 8 euros, concessions 6 euros. Tickets are available at the box office.
Rainer Klis was born in 1955 in Karl-Marx-Stadt and studied at the Leipzig Institute for Literature "Johannes R. Becher". After 1989, he became involved both politically and on a voluntary basis and tried to preserve parts of the former popular book trade in Saxony. He was co-founder and president of the Saxon Writers' Association from 1989 to 2007 and a member of the PEN Centre Germany from 2005.
"Flowers for the Underdog" is the title of Rainer Klis' most recent work, which was published posthumously in 2024 by Mitteldeutscher Verlag Halle (Saale).
Rainer Klis would have celebrated his 70th birthday this year. His former fellow students, Katja Lange-Müller from Berlin and Ralph Grüneberger from Leipzig, as well as his friend and colleague from Chemnitz, Hans Brinkmann, are presenting a selection of Rainer Klis' most recently published prose miniatures and short stories. Klis' long-time friend, guitarist Helmut "Joe" Sachse, with whom he has been on a reading tour for many years, will accompany the reading with music.
