Flood situation on Chemnitz rivers eases temporarily
Further precipitation expected in the afternoon and at the weekend - rivers are constantly being monitored
The flood situation on the Chemnitz rivers is currently easing: level 1 of four flood warning levels still applies to the Chemnitz. The Würschnitz is also still in warning level 1, the water level of the Zwönitz is now below 1.30 metres and therefore outside the warning areas. Levels are falling on all watercourses, including the monitored second-order watercourses.
However, the state flood centre is warning of further precipitation this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are expected from the afternoon onwards. The German Weather Service is also warning of heavy rainfall, which is expected to continue until Sunday morning. All rivers have been monitored and regularly checked since the early morning. Although there is currently no severe weather warning from the German Weather Service, heavy rain is expected throughout the weekend and river levels are expected to rise again.
Residents were informed by siren and loudspeaker announcements after the warning level 2 was exceeded. Würschnitz and Zwönitz had briefly exceeded the level 2 limits in the morning.
So far, around 2500 sandbags have been distributed to affected residents. The following filling points for sandbags are open until further notice: At the volunteer fire brigades in Erfenschlag (Dr.-Karl-Wolf-Straße 1), Glösa (Bornaer Straße 205) and in Klaffenbach opposite the Baufeld company.
The fire brigade had to respond to 30 incidents last Friday night, most of which involved pumping out cellars or gullies and clearing debris from bridges.
