Flood situation in Chemnitz remains tense on Monday morning

The flood situation in the city remains tense on Monday morning. The disaster alert remains in force. The Chemnitz (water level at 6 a.m.: 3.55 metres) is still at flood warning level 4, the highest warning level. The Würschnitz and Zwönitz are currently at flood warning level 3 with a slight downward trend. The Kappelbach has fallen to 1.06 metres and the Pleißenbach is still at flood warning level 3 at 1.37 metres. The situation is not expected to ease in the next few hours due to the persistent rain.
During the night, there were around 20 calls for assistance, including securing the Tietz and the town hall against water ingress as well as the Klaffenbach moated castle and securing the Europark with a sandbag wall. There were also several reports of water ingress into switchgear and fire alarms. In total, the fire brigade was deployed with the professional fire brigade and four volunteer fire brigades as well as the police. The THW, ASB and DRK were also deployed with numerous volunteers and police.
Access to administrative buildings is currently difficult for citizens; the buildings are not barrier-free as the lifts in the town hall and the BVZ Moritzhof are out of order.
There will be no regular lessons at any Chemnitz schools on Monday. Emergency care will be provided in all facilities. The primary schools in Harthau and Klaffenbach will remain closed on Monday andemergency childcare will be provided in the "La Rustica" pub for Harthau primary school pupils whose parents are unable to secure alternative childcare. Emergency childcare for the Klaffenbach primary school will take place in the gymnasium in Adorfer Straße. The schools will also inform parents directly.
All accessible day care centres are open. Due to the flood situation, the Gustav-Freytag-Straße and Schulstraße daycare centres and the daycare centre in Einsiedel will remain closed. Information about alternative childcare options will be provided on site on Monday morning.
Filling points for sandbags arestill active: citizens can currently obtain sandbags from the Erfenschlag (Dr.-Karl-Wolf-Straße 1) and Glösa (Bornaer Straße 205) volunteer fire brigades if required.
Numerous roads are still closed due to the flooding and the continuous rain; on Monday morning this still affected almost 40 roads. However, the Hartmannbrücke bridge and Zwickauer Straße were reopened to traffic in the early morning. Drivers should also pay attention to the information on site.
