Flood risk management in the Kappelbach catchment area - City of Chemnitz revises flood protection concept

In addition to structural measures, flood protection also requires further prevention/mitigation measures. These include flood-appropriate municipal development planning, the mapping of risks to inform those affected and emergency services, flood forecasting and early warning and the provision of emergency plans.

As the Kappelbach also poses considerable risks to health, economic activity and property in the event of flooding, a flood protection concept was drawn up in 2006 on behalf of the Environment Agency.

This flood protection concept is currently being revised and updated on behalf of the Environment Agency in accordance with the requirements of the European Flood Risk Management Directive. The result should be available in the form of a flood risk management plan in December 2019.

The measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the members of the Saxon state parliament.
