Flood protection measures in Draisdorf completed ahead of schedule
Flood protection measures on the Draisdorfer Bach in the "Auenstraße" and "An der Hole" sections completed
The flood protection measures on the Draisdorf stream in the Draisdorf area between Auenstraße and the street "An der Hole", which began in October 2014, have been completed and the partial traffic restrictions for residents have been lifted. This meant that the project could be completed five weeks ahead of schedule.
The Draisdorfer Bach was already overloaded and overflowing during minor flood events due to the inadequate drainage cross-sections of the culverts. In order to improve the drainage situation, the stream was widened and six culverts were replaced with an enlarged drainage profile over a length of around 320 metres. In addition, water pressure-tight manhole covers were retrofitted in the area of the stream pipework.
Prefabricated frame structures and reinforced concrete pipes of various nominal widths were used to enlarge the culverts. The base areas of the culverts were profiled with stone inserts in the mortar bed. Five culverts were fitted with new tubular steel railings as fall protection.
The company Delling-BAU GmbH from Claußnitz was commissioned to carry out the construction work following a public tender. The construction costs totalled 155,000 euros. The measure was fully subsidised by the Free State of Saxony as part of the 2013 flood reconstruction plan.
A retention basin in the Draisdorfer Bach stream is being planned for the continuation of flood protection in Draisdorf.
