Flood damage in Chemnitz: First estimate so far amounts to around six million
The clean-up work after the floods is bringing the damage to light. According to an initial rough estimate, the balance in the city of Chemnitz has so far totalled around six million euros. The largest items, totalling almost two million euros, are roads and bridges. The amount of damage to schools and municipal daycare centres is estimated at almost 1.2 million euros. Administrative buildings have so far accounted for around 260,000 euros. The sports facilities have been estimated at around 153,000 euros and the municipal swimming pool at around 135,000 euros.
However, it should be noted that not all damage - especially to infrastructure and buildings - has been recorded at this stage and that in many cases it has not yet been possible to carry out a more in-depth inspection. The feedback from private individuals and companies has also only just begun.
Twelve companies have contacted the CWE so far, estimating the amount of damage caused at 220,000 euros. Around 100 private individuals have so far reported damage totalling around 300,000 euros to the city.
