Flood damage: bridges in Einsiedel and Erfenschlag to be demolished

The floods caused such extensive damage to some bridges that it had to be decided to demolish the following footpath bridges.

  1. the footpath bridge on the connecting path between Einsiedler Hauptstraße and Talsperrengrund (behind Einsiedler town hall)
  2. in Erfenschlag, the footpath bridge on the path between Erfenschlager Straße at no. 179 and Einsiedler Waldweg.

Both bridges lead over the Zwönitz, were damaged by the flood and pose a danger to the general public due to their low flood safety. This was demonstrated by the fact that both bridges were overflowed, causing the water to back up.

In order to prevent this from happening in the future, it was decided, after consultation with the Einsiedel local council, the state dam administration and the city of Chemnitz, to demolish the bridges in the coming weeks once the necessary preparations have been completed. There are no plans to rebuild the bridges due to their low traffic significance.
