Flood alert cancelled for the city of Chemnitz
The flood alert for the city of Chemnitz was formally cancelled today, Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm. Residents and neighbours in the river areas are currently being informed via the SMS warning service and with announcements from the siren systems.
In the morning, the Zwönitz was the last of the three first-order watercourses to fall below the warning value for flood warning level 1.
Last weekend, the continuous rain had not only caused the rivers to exceed the measured values for the highest warning level four and overflow their banks in many cases, but from 12.45 pm on Sunday to 1.37 pm on Monday, a disaster alert also had to be declared in Chemnitz.
The rivers reached the following maximum levels at the weekend:

Würschnitz 02.06.2013 21.45 2.26 metres
Pleißenbach 02.06.2013 14.00 1.56 metres
Kappelbach 02.06.2013 20.20 hrs 1.54 metres
