Fish, crabs and mussels in Chemnitz - way of life and general causes of endangerment
Lecture by the Environmental Agency on 12 February, 5 p.m., in the Technical Town Hall
On Tuesday, 12 February at 5 pm, Dr Jens-Eike Täubert from the Environmental Agency, Lower Nature Conservation Authority, will give a lecture on fish, crabs and mussels in Chemnitz in Room A 122 of the New Technical Town Hall, Friedensplatz 1. Admission is free.
Fish are of outstanding importance in the ecosystem of water bodies. In addition to their function as a food source for many animal species, individual fish species are essential for the reproduction of native large mussel species and are therefore target species for species conservation. However, fish stocks are endangered, as 75 per cent of the species native to Saxony are on the Red List!
Using selected examples, the way of life of the individual species groups, their endangered status and the general causes of endangerment are described in more detail. Invasive species (alien species with negative effects on other species) are also discussed. Interested parties can also find out what conclusions can be drawn from the occurrence of individual fish species regarding the ecological status of the water body.
