First-year students welcomed to Chemnitz

Mayor Berthold Brehm welcomes first-semester students

The first-year students of Chemnitz University of Technology were welcomed to the city today at the enrolment ceremony in Chemnitz City Hall. In addition to Rector Prof Arnold van Zyl, Mayor Berthold Brehm welcomed the students on behalf of the City of Chemnitz and Bernd Hahn from the TU Student Council.

"Thanks to its excellent reputation and outstanding study conditions, the TU is an excellent choice for studying. It has also been one of the winners in the higher education landscape in recent years. However, it is not only the university, but also the city that first-year students place their trust in. We would like to thank them for this. It is worthwhile not only to study in Chemnitz, but also to live here.

More than 2,500 newly enrolled students are starting their studies at Chemnitz University of Technology this semester. 578 of the new students come from countries such as China, followed by India, Brazil, Turkey and the Czech Republic. In total, around 11,000 students are studying on 92 degree programmes at Chemnitz University of Technology in the 2014/2015 winter semester.
