The Chemnitz City Council adopted a new fire protection requirements plan at its meeting today. This applies to both the professional fire brigade and the volunteer fire brigades of the city of Chemnitz.
People seeking help expect the fire brigade to respond quickly and professionally when needed. Throughout Germany, fire services are not only responsible for firefighting and technical assistance, but are increasingly involved in emergency rescue and ambulance services, dispatching and coordinating operations, preventive fire protection and fire safety education and awareness.
The Saxon law on fire protection, rescue services and disaster control (§§ 6 and 7 SächsBRKG) defines the mandatory tasks of the City of Chemnitz as the local fire protection authority and lower fire protection, rescue service and disaster control authority. Accordingly, the City of Chemnitz is responsible for a municipal fire brigade as a mandatory self-administration task. The task of defining an efficient fire brigade falls to the municipality itself as part of local self-government. This requires appropriate fire protection requirements planning, which, in addition to fire service-specific aspects, also takes into account the principles of efficiency and economy in municipal budget management (in accordance with Section 72 (2) SächsGemO).
With regard to the volunteer fire brigades, the fire protection requirements plan formulates the goal of promoting volunteer work and maintaining or increasing the performance of the volunteer fire brigades in the city of Chemnitz.
