Fire brigade warns: Do not walk on ice!
The fire brigade of the city of Chemnitz warns against walking on ice on rivers, lakes and ponds. Even after a few days of frost, the danger posed by an ice cover that is far too thin is underestimated. Frozen bodies of water are particularly attractive to children. Parents and carers should therefore make sure that children are aware of the dangers of walking on ice. For example, fluctuating water levels or flowing water can cause dangerous cavities to form. The ice is therefore not stable.
The city's green space regulations generally prohibit walking on ice.
The ban also applies to reservoirs. The State Reservoir Administration of the Free State of Bavaria points this out in a press release: https://www.medienservice.sachsen.de/medien/news/245357. It contains rules of behaviour on what to do if a person has fallen onto the ice.
In an emergency, first call the fire brigade on the emergency number 112.
