Finnish "Artist in Residence" is currently in Chemnitz
Exhibition planned for the end of the month
As a result of Chemnitz's participation in the cultural forum of the European city network EUROCITIES, the City of Chemnitz's cultural office is currently organising the "Artist in Residence Chemnitz-Tampere 2013" project together with the cultural administration of the twin city Tampere.
While the Chemnitz artist Lydia Thomas will be travelling to Tampere for a study visit in November, the young Finnish artist Aino Louhi is currently a guest in Chemnitz. She will be living and working in the city until the end of the month and will conclude her study visit with an exhibition at Galerie Laterne. Louhi has moved into her studio directly above the Galerie Laterne, and the association is accompanying the artist during her stay in Chemnitz.
Aino Louhi was born in Espoo, Finland, in 1981, studied fine arts at the Tampere School of Art and Media and was an exchange student in Toronto, Canada, in 2004. Exhibitions of her work have also taken her to the Czech Republic and Sweden.
When asked about her plans for Chemnitz, Aino Louhi revealed that she wants to get to know as much as possible of urban life in Chemnitz, focussing on the city's art and architecture. She will capture some of her new impressions in pictures, which will be created here and then shown in the exhibition. She says of herself that she is a fast painter and draughtswoman.
Representatives of the media are invited to meet the guest artist from Tampere. The contact person for the project is Ms Simone Becht at the City of Chemnitz Cultural Office, telephone: 0371 488-4126 or e-mail: simone.becht(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
Citizens are already invited to the exhibition opening on 28 October 2013 at 19:30 in the Laterne Gallery at Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 19.
