Figures stolen from Röhrsdorf fairytale fountain

The four fairytale figures of the Röhrsdorf fairytale fountain have been stolen. This was discovered this morning. A report has been filed with the Chemnitz police department.

The figures have been ruthlessly removed despite special screws and special security. The copper pipes of the water supply were cut and parts of the sandstone surround of the fountain were damaged.

The work of art was created in 1911 by the well-known sculptor Arthur Lange (1875 - 1929), who was born in Röhrsdorf, and donated to the municipality of Röhrsdorf. The monument authority estimates the value of the figures at 100,000 euros.

The fairytale figures were stolen once before in 2003. The theft was solved at the time and the perpetrator was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
