Feridun Zaimoglu reads from "Siebentürmeviertel" at TIETZ
6th Chemnitz Literature Days LESELUST
Feridun Zaimoglu will be reading from his book "Siebentürmeviertel" on 6 April 2016 at 7 pm as part of LESELUST at TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20. Admission costs 8.00 euros (reduced: 6 euros). The novel centres on a German boy, the first-person narrator Wolf, who ends up in Istanbul as a six-year-old in 1939. His father Franz, an opponent of National Socialism, takes him to stay with friends in the middle of the Seventh Tower neighbourhood, one of the most colourful districts of the metropolis, where religions and ethnicities live side by side in a tense coexistence. What was intended as a temporary measure becomes a permanent solution, and Wolf has to find his way in this overwhelming cosmos.
After "Leyla", the bestseller about a young Turkish woman's journey from Anatolia to Germany in the 1960s, Feridun Zaimoglu turns his attention back to Turkey and takes up the subject of German emigration. With great linguistic power and poetry, he leads the reader into a world in which cultures and religions, but above all human passions and longings, collide.
Feridun Zaimoglu, born in 1964 in Bolu, Anatolia, came to Germany with his parents in 1965. He studied art and human medicine in Kiel, where he has since worked as a writer, screenwriter and journalist. He writes for Die Welt, the Frankfurter Rundschau, Die Zeit and the FAZ.
