Federal programme "TOLERANCE PROMOTION - STRENGTHENING COMPETENCE": Monitoring committee focuses on early prevention, anti-racism work and dealing with the traces of the National Socialists' seizure of power in Chemnitz

A communication from the coordination centre for the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP)

The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth has approved a grant totalling EUR 90,000.00 for the funding of individual projects. The individual projects thatwill receive funding in 2013 as part of the federal "TOLERANCE SUPPORT - COMPETENCE STRENGTHS" programmehave thus been determined .

The association AG In- und Ausländer e.V. will realise a media and education project on the effects of flight and displacement as well as asylum in Germany with Asylum - Interactive Education Modules "Asylum". The grant amounts to20,000.00 euros. 8,470.08 euros are available for the continuation of early childhood prevention by the association Huckepack-Kinderförderung e.V. and the organisation of a symposium. The holistic approach to the development of socio-emotional skills in the area of early childhood development for children, parents and carers, multipliers is considered particularly worthy of support. By funding the Kindervereinigung Sachsen e.V. project in the amount of EUR 12,713.08 for democracy education in Chemnitz daycare centres on the basis of the "Fair in Kita" Saxony model project, the Monitoring Committee is focusing on early prevention work. It is also continuing to analyse the seizure of power by the National Socialists and the traces left behind in Chemnitz by 12 years of social development. The Klinke e.V. association received a grant totalling 9,816.84 euros for the project "So many stories - 80 years of Hitler's seizure of power". The colourful street gallery of the StadtHalten e.V. association will be continued with 15,000.00 euros and a focus on international themes. The socio-cultural art project involves migrants and offers space for networking between stakeholders in the Sonnenberg neighbourhood. The Netzwerk für Kultur- und Jugendarbeit e.V. will continue the Chemnitz Platform for Democracy, offer a symposium on 13 June 2013 on promoting engagement, carry out public relations work and support the city administration's coordination office. A grant totalling 19,990.00 euros was approved for this.

A nationwide day of action entitled "We for Democracy - Day and Night for Tolerance" will take place on 16 April 2013. The Citizens' Association for Chemnitz has been awarded the contract in cooperation with AktionC. Further details can be found in a separate press release.
