"... fear and need are our daily bread ..."

Book presentation with Helmut Bräuer on 5 September, 6 pm at TIETZ

The City Library invites you to a book presentation with Prof. Dr Helmut Bräuer on Thursday, 5 September at 6 pm in the Central Library in the TIETZ. Admission is free.

In his lecture "... angst vnd noth ist vnser täglich brott ..." Bräuer talks about social and mental observations in Chemnitz during the first half of the 17th century. How did the citizens of Chemnitz cope with the crises of the first half of the 17th century - the European war of domination, the plague years, the city fires of 1617, 1631, 1634, 1643/45 and the periodic famine? Hundreds of lives were thrown out of joint. A search for answers.

Helmut Bräuer, born in 1938, was Professor of Territorial History at the University of Leipzig until 1992; he also researched and taught at the Universities of Vienna, Basel and Salzburg until 2003. He was responsible for numerous publications on the urban, economic, social, mental and historiographical history of the late Middle Ages and the early modern period.

An event organised by Chemnitz City Library and Leipziger Universitätsverlag GmbH.
