Favourite places for everyone

Applications for funding to remove barriers now open - application deadline ends on 30 November

Using every restaurant, going to the cinema without restrictions, visiting a museum or actively taking part in sport in a club is not possible for EVERYONE. Many of these facilities are not accessible or fully usable for wheelchair users, and information is not understandable for the hearing and visually impaired or people with learning difficulties. With this in mind, the Free State of Saxony launched the investment programme for the removal of barriers for the first time in 2014 under the motto "Favourite places for everyone" with funding totalling four million euros. It is intended to make access easier for people with disabilities and turn exemplary facilities into their favourite places.

The funding can be effective in many areas, such as culture, leisure, education, but also in the healthcare sector, such as doctors' surgeries, physiotherapies, pharmacies and many more. The aim here is to support all applicants who are not eligible for funding under the Investment and Participation Directive.

These funds - 289,800 euros for Chemnitz - are also available again for 2021. 25 per cent of the total amount is earmarked for measures that create accessibility in outpatient medical practices and dental surgeries. Up to 100 per cent of the costs are funded if the project does not cost more than 25,000 euros. In addition to non-profit initiatives, tradespeople are also eligible.

Applications will be accepted by the Social Welfare Office until 30 November 2020.

The form "Barrier-free building investment programme - favourite places for everyone" is available at www.chemnitz.de in the service portal / forms.
