Families on the move from 10 to 17 September
The European Week of Sport 2016
With the Family Fun Sports Festival and Rudi's PASS Rally as well as many other sporting activities, the city of Chemnitz is taking part in the European Week of Sport for the first time this year on the initiative of the Sonnenberg neighbourhood management. All interested parties are invited to take advantage of free games and sports activities from 10 to 17 September 2016 and get physically active.
The "European Week of Sport" was launched in 2015 with the aim of encouraging all Europeans to take more exercise, to promote a more active lifestyle and to build a healthier society. Educational institutions, employers, cities and local authorities as well as gymnastics and sports clubs are particularly called upon to support this common goal. In 2016, the German Gymnastics Federation, in cooperation with the
EU Commission and the Federal Ministry of the Interior as the national coordinator of the European Week of Sport.
The city of Chemnitz is participating for the first time with the "Families on the Move" campaign organised by the Sonnenberg district management. The campaign aims to promote the joy of exercise, strengthen the family, offer an opportunity to spend time together, have fun, meet other families and exchange ideas. Existing sports and exercise programmes in the area are to be highlighted and become better known in order to improve the health of young and old.
Over the course of the week, participants can take part in various sports and exercise activities, including taster sessions, and collect bonus points. Once the required number of points has been collected, participants can take part in a raffle.
The aim is to encourage families in particular to exercise together, but also to engage in long-term activities.
The programme during the week includes: the sports badge day organised by the city sports association (10 September), the family fun sports festival (11 September), Indian dance to join in (12 September). The low ropes course and Mont Everkist invite you to an open day (13/14 September), as does the RappelZappel family centre (15 September). The Sonnenberg primary school (13 September) and the Martinstraße daycare centre (15 September) are hosting a sports festival. At the police sports club in Forststraße, you can try your hand at "Rudi's PASS Rallye" (17 September). There are also opportunities for hiking and ball games. Various clubs will be offering taster sessions in different sports and for all age groups throughout the entire period.
An overlap with the European Mobility Week (from 16 to 22 September) makes combined offers possible. On Friday, 16 September, the Mobility Day will take place at Chemnitz Neumarkt. There will also be an activity programme for children.
"We want to awaken the joy of movement and integrate it into the everyday lives of residents in the neighbourhood, because movement is part of a healthy and fulfilling life," says neighbourhood manager Elke Koch. "I hope that many people will take advantage of the free exercise, relaxation and sports programmes offered by the providers in the district. There's something for the whole family."
