FAIR travel - niche or necessity?
Lecture at the Environmental Centre on 8 September, 7 pm
The Environmental Centre, Henriettenstraße 5, invites you to a lecture on "FAIR travel - niche or necessity?" with tourism expert Frank Herrmann on Friday, 8 September 2017 at 7 pm. The event is free of charge.
Frank Herrmann will speak on the topic of fair travel and read from his book "FAIRreisen. The handbook for everyone who wants to be environmentally conscious when travelling".
Herrmann himself is travelling by bike on a lecture/reading tour that began in Schwerin on 25 August and ends in Ulm on 7 October. Mr Herrmann, who has a degree in business administration, is an expert in responsible tourism and fair trade. He works as a non-fiction author, editor and journalist as well as a communications consultant.
The team from Sukuma arts e.V. in Dresden will also be present to present the Sukuma Award participatory film prize, which is looking for film ideas on the topic of sustainable tourism in 2017/2018.
The background
When we travel, there are many people on whose services we depend and who are often not paid enough, such as hotel service staff. Our travel behaviour also often has a negative impact on the environment. For example, the golf course on which we enjoy ourselves robs the locals of water and the cruise ship on which we are travelling emits a lot of exhaust fumes. In his lecture, Frank Herrmann uses concrete examples to explain why we should change our behaviour and how we can travel in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly way.
