Failure of displays of the parking guidance system
After a failure of the parking guidance system and the activities of the system supplier to rectify the fault were not successful, the dynamic displays of free parking spaces in the car parks are not available on the parking guidance signs for the time being.
Dynamic and static car park signposts
Although the parking space displays of the dynamic signs do not currently provide any current values and are set to "black", a complete signposting system is still available in the sum of all existing parking signposts for guidance to the parking facilities. The currently missing dynamic remaining space displays can be a useful addition if the utilisation of the parking facilities reaches capacity limits. In Chemnitz, this is only the case during the Christmas period.
System modernisation
Some of the key system components of the car park guidance system commissioned in 2003, such as the control and display technology, are technically worn and no longer available on the market. A fundamental overhaul of the old system would therefore involve incalculable costs and is out of the question for economic reasons. For this reason, the existing parking guidance system is to be put to the test with a preliminary traffic planning study before it is replaced, whereby topics such as the optimisation of signposting, acceptance of the system, benefits for traffic and the environment and the eligibility of a new investment for funding are to be examined.
Information boards
All dynamic information boards, which are also used to display event information in the city, will be fully functional again shortly. Irrespective of the current failure of the car park guidance system, the plan was to integrate the city's information boards into the new traffic management system currently under construction. According to the planned schedule, the information boards should be running in the new system from October 2014.
