"Extraordinary meeting" in the town hall

Chemnitz children meet for the 13th primary school conference

Under the motto "Democracy suitable for children. But how?", Chemnitz schoolchildren are invited to the 13th Primary School Conference on Monday, 4 November 2019, from 2 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall. The aim of this "extraordinary session" is to teach children about democratic processes in a lively and vivid way.

The interest in the topic is enormous: since September, around 80 fourth-graders from various primary schools in Chemnitz have registered for the conference. As every year, the primary school conference is organised by the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, Ute Spindler, in cooperation with municipal institutions and independent socio-cultural initiatives and associations. The conference traditionally opens with the well-known canon "Froh zu sein bedarf es wenig" ("It takes little to be happy") - conducted by the head of the municipal music school, Nancy Gibson.

In five different workshops, the children are then encouraged to deal with topics such as health, friendship, arguments, self-confidence and safe routes to school. Different points of view will be discussed in groups and theses developed together. These - and this is new - will then be put to the vote in plenary sessions.

To commemorate the 13th Chemnitz Primary School Conference, all participating pupil ambassadors will receive a small gift from the "Good Fairy" campaign.
