Extinguishing the fire in the foundry continues
Chemnitz fire brigade has cancelled full alert
Extinguishing work continues on the fire at a foundry next to the Schönherrfabrik in Chemnitz. The Chemnitz professional fire brigade has already been able to extinguish all but a few parts of the blaze. However, the work will continue for at least the rest of the day due to many pockets of embers and several small fires in the building.
The fire broke out early yesterday evening and completely destroyed the production hall of a foundry over a length of around 100 metres. There is an acute risk of collapse. Due to this situation, the fire brigade issued a full alert, meaning that all three professional fire brigades and all 15 volunteer brigades were temporarily deployed. Forces from Central Saxony and the Erzgebirgskreis district also assisted with the situation, and the technical relief organisation was also on site.
As far as we know so far, no people were injured.
