Extensive felling begins
Urgent forest maintenance work in the municipal forest of the city of Chemnitz
Urgent forest maintenance work, the felling of trees damaged or already dead due to bark beetles and road safety measures on roads and property boundaries will begin these days in the city of Chemnitz's own forests. This work will continue until the end of March 2023. The respective forest areas and forest roads are closed during the work. There is a danger to life!
The following forest areas are affected: Tiergarten (Klaffenbach), Hutholz, Neustädter Wald, Erstaufforstung an Oberfrohnaer Straße, Galgenberg, Crimmitschauer Wald, Heilstättenwald, Sechsruthen, Glösaer Wald, Ebersdorfer Wald, Schneller Markt, Grenzbach Erfenschlag, Pfarrhübel, Mühlberg in Einsiedel and Eibenberger Allee.
The felling is mainly carried out mechanically by Saxon forestry companies, which are bound by contract and instructed by the municipal district manager.
The raw timber is processed into various assortments and temporarily stored on roads that can be used by lorries. This can have an adverse effect on the forest roads. Once the timber has been removed, the paths are repaired. This depends on the weather conditions and is expected to be completed after around four months.
For safety reasons, the forest areas and forest paths will be temporarily closed to passers-by for the duration of the logging and timber processing. This is based on the Saxon Forest Act, Section 11, Paragraph 3. Forest visitors must pay attention to the barriers and must not change them. Wooden poles may also not be stepped on or climbed on. Logs could start to roll, which can result in serious accidents.
