Extension to Mittelbach primary school to be renovated
At its meeting today, the city council decided to renovate the extension to Mittelbach primary school, which will also serve as a second escape route for the building.
This will complete the fire safety upgrade from 2018, when the budget was no longer sufficient for the planned demolition of the eastern school extension and the construction of a new escape staircase due to serious defects, including in the floor slabs of the school building. A scaffolding staircase was installed as a temporary solution.
Funds are now available - however, the two-storey extension, which adjoins the existing building to the east, will no longer be demolished. Instead, a remodelling with the construction of a new staircase as a second structural escape route is planned.
At the same time, a request from the local council for a room for community use will be realised. An event room and a multi-purpose room will now be created, which can also be used as a kitchenette and cloakroom. For the village of Mittelbach, the "Public Spaces" project will thus be realised as part of the intervention areas for the Capital of Culture 2025. Furthermore, the sanitary facilities will be remodelled and a barrier-free toilet will be added.
A room in the basement will be converted into an "art" group room and another storage room will be created. On the ground floor, the serving kitchen will be relocated to the extension. In future, this will be accessible from the outside via the new staircase. This will increase the size of the dining room.
The costs for the project amount to 1.12 million euros.
