Extension to Mittelbach primary school to be renovated
Intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025
Last week, construction work began on the renovation and remodelling of the extension to Mittelbach primary school. The project is the Chemnitz district's intervention area for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
After a long period of vacancy, the school will be converted into a new meeting place and event venue in the town centre under the name "Mittelpunkt". At the same time, a second escape route is being built for the school building. The temporary scaffolding in the schoolyard will finally be history.
The resulting multi-purpose room with a small kitchen is to be used for various cultural events in the town centre. In future, there will also be barrier-free access to the event room.
The construction costs for the two measures - the creation of the event room as an intervention area and the second escape route - total €1.125 million. The construction work is expected to be completed in November 2024.
