Extension of Walter-Klippel-Straße between Augustusburger Straße and Eubaer Straße

Start of the complex coordinated construction project on 15 February

On Monday, 15 February, extensive civil engineering work will begin on Walter-Klippel-Straße. Between Augustusburger Straße and Eubaer Straße, the public transport facilities and the underground infrastructure will be completely renewed. The reason for the construction work is the desolate condition of the drainage systems, the current state of the road and the lack of a footpath along Walter-Klippel-Straße.

The construction work is being carried out as a coordinated project between Entsorgungsbetrieb der Stadt Chemnitz (ESC), the utility company eins and the city's civil engineering department. Together, the ESC and the civil engineering department are having a new stormwater sewer laid in nominal widths of DN 300 to DN 600 using the open trench method. In this context, the discharge points at Am Eibsee, Ostgrundbach and Kleinhofweg will also be upgraded.

The underground construction area will be completely reorganised with the sewer construction. The gas pipeline will be laid and the drinking water supply renewed over a total length of 1,050 metres. In addition, utility company eins will commission a new street lighting system with new medium and low-voltage cables. The city is also carrying out broadband development in this area and laying an empty conduit for further telecommunications.

Once the cables have been laid, the carriageway will be completely resurfaced on behalf of the civil engineering department. The future carriageway will have a width of 5.0 to 5.75 metres.

Bus stops will be located on both sides of the Kleinhofweg and on one side of Eubaer Straße.

An approx. two metre wide footpath will be created on the development side. The civil engineering office is having around 2,200 square metres of concrete paving laid for this purpose.

The civil engineering work will begin between Scheerenweg and Ostrowskiweg. Two further construction phases (Ostrowskiweg to Eubaer Straße and Augustusburger Straße to Scheerenweg) will follow. The construction work should be completed by July 2023.

The construction work will be carried out under full road closure. For the duration of the full closure, through traffic will be diverted via Kirchweg in the Euba district. Access for emergency services will also be guaranteed in the immediate construction area by means of temporary solutions. Pedestrian traffic will also be secured during the works.

Residents will be informed of the details (waste disposal, recycling containers, access roads, car parks) in writing by the construction company in the coming days.

The construction costs for the entire project amount to around three million euros, of which around one million euros are earmarked for road and pavement construction as well as the fibre optic connection. The company Wolff & Müller Tief- und Straßenbau GmbH und Co KG was commissioned to carry out the work.
