Commissioning of the indoor pools delayed/extra opening hours in Bernsdorf
Outdoor pools
Good weather conditions are forecast for the coming days. Therefore, contrary to the original plans, the three outdoor pools in Bernsdorf, Einsiedel and Wittgensdorf will remain open daily from 11 am to 6 pm. The extension is initially valid until Sunday, 4 September 2016 and the Gablenz outdoor pool can be visited as planned until Sunday, 11 September as part of the daily opening hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Indoor pools
According to the current status of work, the indoor swimming pool "Am Südring" is scheduled to open on 19 September 2016 and the 50-metre hall in the municipal pool on 26 September 2016.
Many special technical solutions are required for the complex project in the municipal swimming pool, which is a listed building. All engineers, construction supervisors and companies are currently working flat out to meet the construction schedule.
Municipal swimming pool
The ongoing work in the municipal baths includes the complete renewal of the hot water supply systems and a large part of the technical pipework in the basement. The building was also completely reorganised on the drinking water side and the building services were renewed. The public toilets on the ground floor, on the first floor and near a meeting room are also to be modernised. This is primarily in order to be better equipped for future events.
The sanitary and shower units in the 25-metre hall will also be renovated. The ventilation system there is being modernised and a new technical infrastructure has been created so that individual swimming pool areas can be operated separately in future. The electrical and fire alarm systems in the basement are also being extended and the floor is being upgraded in terms of fire protection. The entire project will cost around 2,250,000 euros.
Am Südring indoor swimming pool
At the Am Südring indoor swimming pool, companies are in the process of remodelling the men's sanitary and shower area as well as a disabled toilet. During the work, severe moisture penetration and decomposition of the screed was detected. Experts assessed this and advised that the screed should be completely demolished and the floor structure replaced.
Due to the drying process, the construction period is expected to be extended by around four weeks. The renovation project - which will also ensure greater accessibility there - will cost 100,000 euros. At the same time, the city is renewing the dosing technology in the indoor swimming pool for around 80,000 euros in order to be able to continue to guarantee all important water parameters and hygiene standards.
In connection with the currently limited utilisation options in the other indoor swimming pools due to the ongoing construction work, additional opening hours are being offered in the Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool:
