Expansion of Vettersstrasse
At its meeting today, the city council decided to extend Vettersstrasse between Dittesstrasse and Wartburgstrasse. This is a coordinated construction project. The waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz will renovate the combined sewer on Vettersstraße between Turnstraße and Wartburgstraße and inetz GmbH will build a new drinking water pipeline in the same section.
The carriageway will be surfaced with asphalt throughout the entire length of 673 metres. The pavement crossings will have the same surface as the entire pavement to emphasise the priority of pedestrians. The one-way street will be retained, as will the 30 km/h zone. Cycle traffic will be integrated into the road traffic and the opposite direction will be open to cycle traffic. There are parking spaces for 160 vehicles on both sides of the road.
In addition to the existing trees, a further 23 new plantings on the six metre wide green strip will emphasise the avenue character. Only two trees will have to be felled. However, these will also be replaced.
The costs for the extension amount to around 1.5 million euros, of which just under 380,000 euros are currently earmarked for subsidies. A further 125,000 euros can only be applied for with the 2020 continuation application. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of October 2019. Completion of the project is planned for mid-November 2020.
The construction work will be carried out in sections with full road closures. Local traffic is permitted at all times.
