Expansion of Unritzstrasse begins

Start of construction of the coordinated construction project between Riedstraße and Pelzmühlenstraße on 10 March

The extensive construction work on Unritzstraße will begin on Monday, 10 March. The construction work from Riedstraße and up to approx. 100 metres past the junction with Pelzmühlenstraße (south) will be carried out in six construction phases and will continue throughout 2025. Unritzstraße will be fully closed for the duration of the work.

With the first construction phase between Riedstraße and the access road to the DRK hospital, through traffic along Unritzstraße will no longer be possible. The hospital site and the Unritzstraße residential area opposite can be reached via Zwickauer Straße or Oberfrohnaer Straße and Pelzmühlenstraße. Up-to-date information on the most suitable route is also available on the homepage and social media of the DRK Hospital Chemnitz-Rabenstein.

Preparatory work for the construction project was already carried out from mid-February. Trees were felled, temporary access roads, replacement stops, replacement parking spaces and temporary traffic lights were installed. The temporary structures will be dismantled again in the first quarter of 2026.

The carriageway of Unritzstraße will be renewed in the named road area up to and including December 2025. In addition, the road will be fundamentally upgraded in sections, the pavements will be reorganised and four barrier-free public transport stops will be built.

At the same time, broadband will be laid throughout the entire extension section. The drinking water pipes, electricity and communication cables and the street lighting system will be renewed in sections.

The project is a coordinated construction project between the City of Chemnitz's transport and civil engineering department and the utility company eins, which is responsible for drinking water, electricity and lighting.

The total construction costs amount to approx. 2.05 million euros. The road construction portion amounts to around 1.5 million euros.

The company EBG Bau GmbH from Ehrenfriedersdorf has been commissioned to carry out the construction work.
