Expansion of the Emanuel-Gottlieb-Flemming primary school
Expansion to four classes requires extraordinary funding
At its meeting today, the city council approved the unscheduled provision of funds totalling around €1.5 million for the expansion of Emanuel Gottlieb Flemming Primary School.
The funds will be used for the complete refurbishment of the "connector and after-school wing" part of the building. The refurbishment includes the functional spatial expansion of the room programme currently designed for three classes to include the space required for a fourth primary school class with after-school care, including the cloakroom areas. Furthermore, the roof covering, the windows, the exterior and interior doors as well as the heating and sanitary facilities must be renewed. This also includes the addition of light wells, insulation of the façade and new flooring and railings. An escape staircase will also be added as a second escape route.
Since June 2016, the primary school has been renovated as a three-form entry primary school based on the pupil number forecast of the Saxon Education Agency, Chemnitz Regional Office (SBA C). The latest pupil number forecasts, which were submitted again by the SBA C in June 2017, now predict a need for four first classes at Emanuel-Gottlieb-Flemming-GS from 2018/19. This will be secured accordingly with the extended refurbishment.
