Existing siren warning system to be expanded

On Tuesday, 19 July at 2.30 pm, Mayor Ralph Burghart, the Head of the Fire Department, René Kraus, and representatives of the Civil Protection and Disaster Control Department of the City of Chemnitz invite you to a press conference at Comenius Primary School, Comeniusstrasse 1. The occasion is the start of construction work to expand the existing siren warning system.

The City of Chemnitz intends to install eleven new electronic sirens. In addition, twelve existing electronic sirens will be retrofitted for triggering via the Modular Warning System (MoWaS). A central control system will be added to the electronic siren system in order to ensure a double triggering option (redundancy) and to be able to monitor the functionality of the sirens and the alarms triggered.
In addition to a defined sound level, the electronic sirens are equipped with a battery backup, because in the event of a power failure it must still be possible to run through at least four warning and de-alarming cycles. The system also includes a digital siren control receiver, which is required for triggering the sirens by the integrated regional control centre and reproducing the standardised siren signals and enables the sirens to be controlled via the TETRA BOS digital radio network. Warning texts can also be announced via these sirens.
The City of Chemnitz is expected to invest 224,000 euros, of which 131,350 euros will be financed by subsidies.
A total of 88 million euros will be made available from the federal government's 2020-2022 economic stimulus and crisis management package to support the siren infrastructure and its activation via MoWaS. The Free State of Saxony will receive federal funds totalling 4.28 million euros. The application and distribution is carried out in accordance with the Siren Funding Directive.
