Exhibition with texts by Simone Weil
Adult education centre: Lecture and film screening complement the show
On Tuesday, 1 March, 6 to 7.30 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will open an exhibition on Simone Weil in the TIETZ, 4th floor corridor area. The exhibition, which shows historical photos and texts by the French philosopher, will be accompanied by a lecture and a film screening in the following weeks. Participation in all events is free of charge.
Simone Weil (1909 to 1943) was a French philosopher, lecturer, teacher and social revolutionary of Jewish descent. In her writings, she dealt with religious, spiritual, cultural and political issues as well as topics such as education, justice, poverty and war. The texts shown in the exhibition take a stand on issues of uprooting and uprooting from the Weimar Republic to the present day. They are complemented by historical photos from times of war and crisis.
The exhibition, which is being held to coincide with the Chemnitz Peace Day on 5 March, is on loan from the Peace Library/Anti-War Museum Berlin. At the opening on 1 March, there will be an introduction to the creation of the exhibition. In addition, the author Dr Wolfram Eilenberger will give a lecture on "The uncompromising visionary Simone Weil". This will take place on Thursday, 10 March, 7 to 8.30 p.m. in the TIETZ event hall.
On 24 March, 7 to 8.30 pm, a film about the life and work of Simone Weil will then be shown in the TIETZ, course room 4.07.
The presentation of the exhibition is a co-operation between Aktion C, the Catholic Academy and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
