The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz will open the special exhibition "Highlights of Nature Photography 2019" on Wednesday, 13 November 2019 at 5 pm. The exhibition will once again take place on the premises of the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre in the TIETZ. The images will be on display until 12 January 2018.

The Highlights of Nature Photography has been running for 21 years. This year, the international photo competition was again very popular - a jury selected the winning images from 18,633 pictures by over 1,000 photographers from 40 countries. The current exhibition has been travelling through Germany since this year. In Chemnitz, the exhibition can be seen from 14 November on the 5th floor of the TIETZ during the opening hours of the Museum of Natural History. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, at weekends and on public holidays from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.

The winner of the 2019 competition is Michaela Walch from Austria. Her picture "David and Goliath" shows a moment in nature that is perhaps more common for animals, but is rarely recognised by an observer. You can see a great tit next to a brown bear. "This shows peaceful coexistence in nature - small and large can live side by side without quarrelling," said the competition organisers. The judges commented on their decision that the photographer had created something special by capturing this situation and that the photo gave the viewer a feeling of being there. The winning photo was taken in the Notranjska region of Slovenia.
