Exhibition on the EU project AUFwachsen - ZUSAMMENwachsen - Enlargement

It is a German-Czech success story: the EU project AUFwachsen - ZUSAMMENwachsen - Die Erweiterung brought almost 7,000 people together at 90 events between 2009 and 2014. Professional partnerships and friendships were formed between people in the twin cities of Ústí nad Labem (Czech Republic) and Chemnitz. To this day, there are contacts between individual project participants across national borders, ranging from reciprocal visits to joint holidays.

"Living Europe - the project GROWING UP - GROWING TOGETHER - Enlargement has impressively demonstrated how this works in recent years. Thanks to the commitment of many stakeholders on both sides of the German-Czech border and the support of the EU Objective 3 | Cíl 3 programme, Bohemia and Saxony have grown even closer together. We are excited to see how the success story of this project will continue in the coming years," explains Pia Sachs, EU Coordinator of the City of Chemnitz.

"We are delighted to be hosting the exhibition 'Impressions from the inner workings of a project' at Chemnitz City Hall from Monday, 1 June 2015. With the exhibition, we not only want to give the public the opportunity to get an impression of the complex processes behind the project, but also to inspire other initiatives and encourage them to carry out such a project themselves," says Karl-Heinz Knoll, co-organiser of AUFwachsen - ZUSAMMENwachsen - Die Erweiterung and project manager at Die Brücke e. V.

The exhibition "Impressions from the inner life of a project" documents the work of the project partners Die Brücke e. V. and Kindervereinigung Sachsen e. V. from Chemnitz as well as the House of Children and Youth Ústí nad Labem. With the support of the City of Chemnitz, the project partners organised training courses for child and youth work professionals, events for young people in the field of political participation and intergenerational encounters for the residents of the two twin cities over the five years.

AUFwachsen - ZUSAMMENwachsen - The expansion was made possible by the EU Objective 3 | Cíl 3 programme to promote cross-border cooperation between the Free State of Saxony and the Czech Republic and the City of Chemnitz.

The exhibition opening will take place on Monday, 1 June 2015 at 4 pm. The exhibition will be on display in the town hall until 26 June 2015. Admission is free.
