Exhibition on the basic income
Opening on 15 November, 19:00 at the Environmental Centre
A travelling exhibition on basic income will be opened on 15 November at 7 pm at the Umweltzentrum, Henriettenstraße 5. The exhibition was conceived by the "Enough for all" working group from the Attac network.
The exhibition provides information about the idea of an unconditional basic income, the background to its creation and possible organisation, and highlights current discussions and developments.
The exhibition will be on display at the Environmental Centre until 21 November 2016.
Background:
The concept of an unconditional basic income describes the idea of social security without being forced to work and thus aims at social participation and the possibility of free development for each individual. By overcoming economic dependency and the accompanying shift in power relations, this idea is seen as having enormous potential for social change.
In view of increasing social inequality and the ongoing rationalisation of jobs, public discussions on the decoupling of income and work are increasing significantly. The recent referendum in Switzerland and political developments in Finland have shown how quickly and how explosively the topic can be placed on the political agenda.
From an ecological perspective, the question arises as to whether and how a basic income can contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable production and lifestyles within society. Limits to growth, reducing working hours, enabling alternative lifestyles and empowering people to exert democratic influence are key issues being discussed in the basic income movement.
