Excursion to the memorial site for "euthanasia" victims

On Sunday, 7 May, from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites interested parties to an event at the memorial site on the grounds of the SFZ Förderzentrum. The focus will be on commemorating the victims of "euthanasia" crimes committed in Chemnitz during the National Socialist era. The historian Dr Jürgen Nitsche will talk about the events of that time and the biographies of individual victims. The "euthanasia" crimes in Saxony as a whole will also be examined.
The meeting point is in front of House 40 of the SFZ support centre on Flemmingstraße. Participation in the event is free of charge. Registration is possible by telephone on 0371 488-4343 or online.
During the National Socialist era, people in Chemnitz were also victims of so-called "euthanasia" crimes. This did not happen in the former Chemnitz state educational institution in Altendorf (now the SFZ support centre). However, people with mental and physical disabilities were sent to their deaths from there at the Pirna-Sonnenstein euthanasia centre.
In order to create a worthy memorial for these people, a walk-in memorial was created in September 2007 on the grounds of the former institutional cemetery in Altendorf, which invites people to pause and reflect. The memorial was designed and created by the Chemnitz artists Frank Maibier and Gregor T. Kozik. Frank Maibier will be present at the event.
