Exciting literature teaching in homeschooling
The city library is breaking new ground with its "Reading against violence" project. On Monday, 14 December, Cologne-based young adult author Manfred Theisen will be reading for Chemnitz schoolchildren at a digital event.
The "Reading against Violence" project is taking place for the 19th time this year. However, for the first time, the readings will not be held in the Chemnitz City Library. The current situation forced those involved to reschedule. Without further ado, the readings with author Manfred Theisen were moved to the digital space. They can take place there despite school closures. In two events on Monday, the Cologne-based author will read from his book "Uncover. Die Trollfabrik" and then discuss issues relating to hate speech, fake news and trolls with pupils from the Oberschule Annenschule. The young people are connected via video conference and take part from home.
The author and school class were brought together by librarian Nancy Mickel from Chemnitz City Library. As a co-operation partner of the Chemnitz City Library Association, she coordinates the "Reading against Violence" project.
Since 2002, regular readings by children's and young people's authors have been organised as part of the Reading against Violence project. The topics are varied, but always focus on violence between children and young people. The project was initiated by the association Förderer der Stadtbibliothek Chemnitz e. V. and is funded by the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP).
