Excavations begin on the grain market
Residential and commercial building under construction - from Monday, 24 September 2018, there will be no parking spaces in the surrounding area
On Monday, 24 September, the Saxony State Office for Archaeology will begin archaeological excavations on the Getreidemarkt. The State Office is routinely involved in the construction planning. The construction project is located in the area of the former city centre of Chemnitz. Its location represents a high-ranking archaeological zone of relevance.
A residential and office building complex is being built on the approximately 5,000 m² excavation area. The area was previously used as a car park. In June 2018, planning permission was granted for the construction of a residential and commercial building with an underground car park.
A grocery shop and various small retail units are to be built on the ground floor. Flats are planned for the upper floors. A total of 387 car parking spaces and 100 bicycle parking spaces will be created in the building. A total of 29 parking spaces that were legally secured for uses in Innere Klosterstraße, Börnichsgasse and Webergasse on the former "Getreidemarkt" car park will be replaced in the new building.
Due to the excavations that are now beginning, 19 parking spaces in the public traffic area on Lohstraße and Börnichsgasse will be cancelled with immediate effect.
